    New horizons for fisheries research

    Get PDF
The acute shortage of animal protein in the diet of a vast majority of the people of India has been the major contributing factor for the general nutritional deficiency. Fish constitute an important and plentiful source of such high quality animal protein in our country. The per capita consumption of fish is, however, es'timated at about 2.6 kg/year which is only one-tenth of that in some of the advanced countries. India produces now about 15 lakh tonnes of fish and a luodest target of 20 lakh tonnes annually has been set for the Fourth Five year Plan

Study for Design of Magneto Rheological Damper

Semi-active isolation system have received attention over the active and passive isolation system for vibration, mitigation of vibration in industrial application is the essential development. Magneto rheological damper quick response to sudden maneuvers with less power consumption leads to many research and design of MR damper for different design parameters and variable current input, in this present work designed a MR damper with all the requisite design parameter information compiled from earlier work., number of coils required to generate the effective magnetic flux field has been calculated to design the magneto rheological damper and to arrive maximum magnetic flux density vs dc current with proper proportion percentage of ferrite particles in MR fluid which further leads to calculate shear stress and damper force can produce by the designed MR damper at variable current input

A DWT-BCH code based Video Steganography by employing Variable bit length Algorithm

Due to the high speed of Internet we can easily transfer video data over the Internet, but people are worried about their data being hacked by unauthorized users. Inside the host medium (text, audio, image and video) we can embed the secret message in Steganography. Video Steganography is a significant method for data hiding. In this work, a variable bit length Video Steganography algorithm is proposed. To immune the secret data, it is first encoded using BCH codes, where the message bits of length k will be converted to a codeword of length n. Depending on the wavelet coefficient values of DWT(Discrete wavelet transform), secret data are embedded into the middle and high frequencies. The results demonstrate better results than in [1]

Marine fish production and export marketing trend in Kerala - an economic analysis

Though the marine fish production has considerably increased over the years .the economically backward traditional fishermen in the nonmechanised sector has been highly marginalized with enhanced mechanisation and motorisation of the fishing units. Inspite of the increase in fleet size and decrease in the catch rates, the mechanised and the motorised sectors still sustain mainly due to the increase in the price of almost all the varieties of fishes. The present study was carried out in Kerala coast during 1995-96, to assess the sectoral contribution of marine fish production, export trend of marine products and economics of prominent craft gear combinations. Production trend clearly indicates a declining catch of oil sardine and catfish in recent years and marked improvement in the production of penaeid prawns and cephalopods. More than 20% of the marine products exported from India are from Kerala and the forex earnings by the state during 1994-95 was Rs. 816.64 crores. The need for giving emphasis for product development and value added products has been stressed to improve our forex earnings. Almost all type of fishing units operating along Kerala coast are found to be economically viable

Kinetics and mechanism of the oxidation of some cis-Alpha- Phenylcinnamic acids by Pyridinium Chlorochromate

    Get PDF
Oxidation of cis ├О┬▒-phenyl cinnamic acids by pyridinium chlorochromate (PCC) was studied in acetic acid├втВмтАЬwater mixturecontaining perchloric acid. The reaction rate is first order in [PCC] and fractional order in [H+] and has aldehyde as aproduct. The rate of reaction increases with increase in the percentage of acetic acid medium. The reactions exhibit kineticisotope effect. The activation parameters have been evaluated. The added Mn (II) decreases the rate of reaction. Theadded sodium chlorate has no effect on the reaction rate and indicates the absence of ion-ion (or) ion- dipole interaction inthe slow step. The deviation of Hammett plot is noted and a ├втВм┼УV├втВм shaped curve is obtained

Quantitative assessment of the potential fishery resources of the Indian Ocean and adjoining seas

Even -though oceanic fisheries have bccome a major contributing factor in the world production of marine fish, for countries bordering the Indian Ocean which do not have large mechanized fishing fleet capable of operating far away from their ports, the fisheries of shallow-water areas are of primary interes

Online Acoustic Emission Monitoring of Cyclic Ball Indentation Testing - Correlation with Hysteresis Area Response

    Get PDF
Abstract Fatigue has been one of the most researched subjects as most of the critical component failures are traced to fatigue. While fatigue data generation for design purposes is carried out using ASTM or equivalent standard specimens, the use of miniature or small specimens to estimate the fatigue properties is considered as a tool for extending the remaining life of in-service components. Cyclic automated ball indentation (Cyclic ABI) is one of the non-conventional test techniques used for fatigue performance assessment of pristine and in-service damaged materials. This method uses compression-compression cyclic loading of a flat specimen using a tungsten carbide spherical indenter; continuous monitoring of load-displacement (measured close to the indentation location) data provides an idea about the fatigue life of the material. Apart from this, hysteresis in load-displacement is used as an indicative energy parameter to detect fatigue failure in an Inconel 617 alloy using an off-line data analysis. To ensure on-line tracking of failure events, a specially tuned, miniature acoustic emission (AE) sensor was used during cyclic indentation testing. The AE parameters were extracted in the format of counts, absolute energy; the result processed in terms of cumulative counts, cumulative energy as well as first derivative of acoustic emission counts vs. fatigue cycles was used to cross-correlate failure events with other sensor responses. The failure cycles identified from AE were found to be in good agreement with the hysteresis area under the load-displacement curves, as well as extensometer displacement during cyclic loading
